GOLD COASTDAY OUT
Gold Coast Day Out planning guide

A practical Gold Coast school holiday activity planner

Mix active outings, free days and an indoor backup with a manageable holiday budget and calendar.

Give the holiday a few things to look forward to without turning every day into a booking. Plan around a mix of active outings, free time and an indoor backup. Choose dates and a total budget before deciding how many attractions to include.

Start with the correct calendar

Queensland state schools list their 2026 summer holiday from 12 December 2026 to 26 January 2027. Individual school arrangements can differ, so check your child's school and any interstate family visiting you. Queensland term dates, school-calendar guidance

Use those dates to organise the family calendar. Do not assume a venue operates every day of the school break or that normal term-time prices and programmes apply.

An adaptable week

This is a planning template, not a published event programme.

Day type Suggested plan Leave flexible
Active outing One prebooked activity everyone can participate in Lunch and the time you head home
Free outdoor day Park, gardens or a suitable signed walk Length of the visit and food stop
Home or rest day No attraction booking What the children choose to do
Creative or indoor day A gallery programme, mini golf or games within your budget Extra activities after the main one
Friends' day Meet another family with a clear arrival and collection plan The rest of the afternoon

Repeat only the parts that suit your family. There is no requirement to have five organised outings in a week.

Shortlist by the problem you need to solve

For a water day, compare GC Aqua Park's sessions and participation information. For an indoor active option, check BOUNCE's date and ticket categories. For a creative programme, start with HOTA's actual event listings rather than assuming a workshop runs every day. GC Aqua Park, BOUNCE Gold Coast, HOTA Gallery

For a wildlife outing, look at the day's presentation schedule and any closure notices. David Fleay's official page displayed a Nocturnal House maintenance notice when researched, which is a reason to check before promising a particular animal. David Fleay Wildlife Park

Book the limited part first

Reserve the main activity once you have checked eligibility and cancellation terms. Add the easy parts afterwards. A picnic or unbooked play stop is easier to change than a second timed ticket.

If friends are joining, agree on who buys tickets, how costs are shared and who supervises. Check waivers and collection arrangements before the day, especially when a parent is bringing someone else's child.

Keep a weather decision point

Choose an indoor alternative before you need it, then check the outdoor booking's change conditions. Decide when you will review the forecast and any operator updates. Do not assume your own decision to change plans qualifies for a refund.

Keep a simple note with the date, confirmation, total cost and preparation instructions for each booking. That makes it easier to enjoy the outing once the holiday arrives.
