Compare the amount your family will pay, including the parts that sit outside the headline ticket. The cheapest advertised entry is not always the cheapest outing, and a longer attraction is not automatically better value for a family that only wants a short activity.
Use the same guest list and date for every comparison. Two adults with a toddler and a teenager can pay differently from two adults with two primary-school children.
Build one complete total
| Cost | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Admission | Exact ticket types for each person participating |
| Required supervision | Any additional paid participant needed under the venue's rules |
| Mandatory equipment | Required socks or other items not included in the ticket |
| Booking fees | Fees shown before payment |
| Transport | Return fares or fuel allowance |
| Parking | Likely charge for the planned time, checked against current signs/rates |
| Food | Your planned spend, including picnic purchases |
| Optional extras | Lockers, extra games, souvenirs or encounters you actually intend to buy |
Add these lines before comparing venues. Keep an optional-extra allowance separate so you can see the cost of the outing you intended and the maximum you are comfortable spending.
Watch for different pricing units
Some attractions charge per person, others by game, session, package or shared booking. A card loaded with game credit is a spending amount, not necessarily unlimited access to every attraction. Check Timezone's Surfers Paradise products specifically. Official venue information
At mini golf, use the same number of holes when comparing products. At a water activity, check whether required equipment is included. A party package and ordinary admission may have different inclusions even at the same venue. Holey Moley Surfers Paradise options, GC Aqua Park visitor information
A worked budgeting example
Imagine your chosen tickets total A$120, mandatory equipment adds A$20, transport and parking add A$10, and your food budget is A$30. Your planned total is A$180, before any fees not yet included or optional purchases.
Those numbers are deliberately illustrative. They are not prices from an attraction or a claim that a family can buy a particular outing for A$180. Replace every number with the amount for your dates and guests.
Free entry still needs a budget
The Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens publishes free entry. Your family may still spend money getting there and eating. That does not make the outing poor value; it simply means “free entry” and “nothing spent today” are different calculations. Garden visitor information
Decide what value means for your family
Write down your maximum total and the experience you want: time outdoors, a shared challenge, a birthday or an easy activity between other plans. Compare options that meet that need. Cost per hour can be a secondary check, but it should not encourage you to buy more time than the group wants.
Open the official booking page immediately before paying. Confirm the date, participants, inclusions and final total, then save the confirmation and change conditions.
